Neighbors across Atlanta spent Tuesday evening connecting with one another and the first responders who serve their communities during National Night Out, an annual event focused on building stronger, safer neighborhoods.

Mayor Andre Dickens visited three celebrations throughout the evening—Summerhill, Midtown and Collier Heights—meeting with residents and thanking community leaders, police officers, firefighters and neighborhood organizations for their partnership in advancing the City’s One Safe City strategy.

Across each stop, the message was simple: public safety is a group project.

By the Numbers

Mayor Dickens shared encouraging public safety updates from across the city:

  • Citywide crime is down 14%
  • Homicides are down 18%
  • Zone 1 crime is down 18%
  • Zone 3 robberies are down 28%
  • Zone 5 crime is down 25%

Three Neighborhoods, One Goal

📍 Summerhill (NPU-V)

  • Residents from Adair Park, Mechanicsville, Peoplestown, Pittsburgh, Summerhill and Capitol Gateway came together to celebrate their neighborhoods.
  • The Mayor thanked residents for helping make public safety a community effort.

📍 Midtown

  • The Midtown Neighbors’ Association hosted a block party featuring Atlanta Police, Atlanta Fire Rescue, Midtown Blue, PAD, HOPE Atlanta, Our House, ATL311 and other community partners.
  • Residents had the opportunity to meet the people and organizations helping keep Midtown safe every day.

📍 Collier Heights

  • The Mayor wrapped up the evening in the historic Collier Heights neighborhood, calling it “my community.”
  • He thanked neighbors, Dr. Juanita Morton and NPU-I for bringing residents together and strengthening neighborhood connections.

Investing in Safer Neighborhoods

Mayor Dickens also highlighted City investments that support public safety beyond traditional policing, including:

  • The Mayor’s Office of Violence Reduction
  • @Promise Centers
  • Midnight Basketball
  • Year of the Youth
  • The Public Safety Training Center
  • More than 14,000 affordable homes completed, under construction or funded toward the City’s goal of 20,000 by 2030.

National Night Out is celebrated each year across the country to strengthen relationships between residents and first responders. Tuesday’s events showed that whether in Summerhill, Midtown or Collier Heights, Atlanta’s neighborhoods are helping build a safer city—together.
