Chief Financial Officer Mohamed Balla has been named CFO of the Year in Government and Nonprofits by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, recognizing his leadership in strategic financial planning, transparency, and long-term fiscal stewardship.

The award coincided with another major milestone: the unanimous adoption of the City of Atlanta’s FY2026 budget, totaling $3 billion across all major funds. The $975.4 million General Fund will support critical services including public safety, housing, youth programs, and infrastructure.

“This budget represents our shared commitment to building a city that invests in its people, strengthens our infrastructure, and looks to the future,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “I am grateful to the City Council for their collaboration in advancing a budget that puts public safety, economic growth, and sustainability at the forefront.”

Now in his third year as CFO, Balla helped guide the City through a smooth and efficient budget process. The FY2026 budget marks the fourth straight unanimous budget under the Dickens Administration and the first to be adopted through the City Council’s Consent Agenda.

“This $3 billion balanced budget reflects smart, responsible planning—prioritizing impact, equity, and long-term value for Atlanta residents,” said Balla.

FY2026 Budget Highlights:

  • Public Safety & Community Programs: Expanded funding for police, fire, and youth violence prevention programs.
  • Affordable Housing & Homelessness: Continued investment in affordable housing and housing stability initiatives.
  • Infrastructure & Transit: Investments in roads, sidewalks, and public transportation upgrades.
  • Economic Growth & Jobs: Support for local businesses and workforce development.
  • Youth Empowerment: Increased funding for after-school and youth employment programs.

City Council also approved additional legislation to support employee compensation, adopt a new millage rate, promote energy efficiency, and provide resources for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Balla’s recognition as CFO of the Year reflects the strength of Atlanta’s financial strategy and the continued dedication of the City’s Finance team.
