Just weeks after welcoming the world for FIFA World Cup 2026™, Atlanta is once again hosting leaders from across the country.
More than 40 mayors, along with city staff, business leaders and labor partners, are in Atlanta this week for the Democratic Mayors Association’s Mayors Deliver conference. The multi-day gathering focuses on the challenges cities face every day—from housing and transportation to economic development and public safety—and gives local leaders the chance to share ideas and learn from one another.
Mayor Andre Dickens is serving as host for several conference events while also participating in discussions about how cities can work with the private sector and community partners to deliver results for residents.
Atlanta Takes Center Stage
Conference activities began Monday with a panel discussion featuring Mayor Dickens and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
The conversation focused on how cities can stretch taxpayer dollars by partnering with businesses, nonprofits and philanthropic organizations to tackle major priorities such as affordable housing, neighborhood investment and economic development.
Mayor Dickens pointed to Atlanta’s experience bringing together public and private partners on projects ranging from affordable housing initiatives to preparations for FIFA World Cup 2026™, noting that large-scale successes require collaboration across government, business and community organizations.
Conference Continues Tuesday
Tuesday morning officially kicked off the conference with a welcome from Mayor Dickens, who highlighted Atlanta’s recent success hosting hundreds of thousands of World Cup visitors while continuing to provide everyday city services for residents.
The opening session also featured remarks from former Atlanta Mayor and Democratic nominee for Georgia governor Keisha Lance Bottoms, U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin and activist Carlos Eduardo Espina.
Throughout the day, attendees will participate in discussions on issues facing cities nationwide, including housing, public health, transportation, workforce development and economic opportunity.
A Chance to Share Ideas
While each city faces unique challenges, the conference gives mayors an opportunity to exchange ideas on solutions that have worked in their communities.
Topics include innovative partnerships, strategies for attracting investment, improving public services and finding new ways to address residents’ needs during a time of growing demand for city services.
The conference concludes with an Atlanta welcome reception Tuesday evening, where Mayor Dickens will thank sponsors and officially welcome visiting leaders to the city.
