As the new school year approaches, more than 200 Atlanta students and their families spent the weekend getting ready for success at the Antioch Urban Ministries Inc. (AUMI) Youth Summit and Back-to-School Event at Antioch Baptist Church North.

The annual event combined school supplies with hands-on learning, connecting students and parents with workshops, resources and community partners focused on helping young people thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Preparing Students for Success

Throughout the day, students participated in age-specific workshops covering STEM education, financial fitness, anger management and conflict resolution, while younger children enjoyed activities designed just for early learners. Parents also had access to sessions focused on supporting their children’s academic success and personal development.

Families also received free school supplies and connected with organizations offering resources that will continue supporting students throughout the school year.

Investing in Atlanta’s Youth

Mayor Andre Dickens joined students, families and community leaders during the event, thanking Antioch Baptist Church North, Antioch Urban Ministries, volunteers and parents for investing in Atlanta’s next generation.

“Atlanta’s greatest investment will always be our youth,” Mayor Dickens said. “When we create opportunities for young people to learn, grow and dream big, we’re building a stronger future for our entire city.”

The mayor also spoke about his own background as an engineer, encouraging students to explore STEM careers while highlighting the City’s continued focus on youth through the Year of the Youth initiative.

Celebrating Student Success

The summit also celebrated what’s possible when young people are supported. Students like Angel Richardson, a former foster youth and North Atlanta High School graduate who earned admission to more than 16 colleges and now studies Biomedical Science and Enterprise at Georgia State University, were recognized alongside Atlanta Public Schools’ record 90.48% graduation rate. Together, those achievements reflect what strong partnerships between families, schools, faith organizations and the City can accomplish as Atlanta continues investing in its youth and preparing students for a successful school year.
