Travelers moving through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will soon notice more space, improved passenger flow, and a more modern experience along Concourse D as the next phase of the concourse widening project officially opens.

Mayor Andre Dickens joined airport leaders, project partners, and Delta Air Lines on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of Phase 3N of the Concourse D widening project, a major milestone in the airport’s ongoing $1.3 billion transformation effort.

The expansion comes at a critical time for Atlanta as the city prepares to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors for the FIFA World Cup later this month.

“Just because we have one of the best airports in the world doesn’t mean that we slow down,” said Mayor Dickens. “Here at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, we are continuously improving.”

The Concourse D widening project is Updates 27designed to improve the passenger experience while increasing the airport’s ability to accommodate additional aircraft and growing passenger demand. The work includes wider corridors, upgraded gate areas, improved concessions space, and expanded infrastructure aimed at creating a more comfortable and efficient experience for travelers.

The newly opened section builds on the momentum of five gates that opened in September 2025 and represents another visible step forward in the airport’s long term ATLNext modernization program.

For many international visitors arriving in Atlanta over the coming weeks, Hartsfield Jackson will serve as their first impression of the city.

“This transformation of Concourse D says, ‘Welcome to Atlanta. We’re so glad you’re here,’” Mayor Dickens said during remarks at the event.

Airport officials noted that construction has continued while the concourse remained operational, minimizing disruptions for travelers while accelerating delivery timelines ahead of schedule.

The project is being delivered through a partnership between the City of Atlanta, Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta Air Lines, the ATLNext project team, Holder Moody Bryson Sovereign Joint Venture, and designers Corgan Goode Van Slyke JV.

Once complete in 2029, the fully transformed Concourse D will feature additional gate capacity, expanded passenger circulation areas, upgraded amenities, and modernized infrastructure designed to support Atlanta’s continued growth as a global aviation hub.

The concourse improvements are part of broader investments taking place across the airport as Atlanta prepares for increased international attention during the FIFA World Cup and beyond.

“We are building spaces that match the energy, scale and spirit of this city,” Mayor Dickens said. “These are spaces that welcome the world, connect us to new opportunities, and reflect Atlanta’s role as a true global hub.”
