A new soccer field is bringing more opportunities for Atlanta’s young people to play, learn and connect, right in their own neighborhood.
On Tuesday, October 20, Mayor Andre Dickens joined community leaders, families and local partners to celebrate the opening of StationSoccer at H.E. Holmes MARTA Station, marking the program’s seventh location and its 10th anniversary.
What started as a creative idea a decade ago has grown into a network of soccer fields at MARTA stations, making the sport more accessible to children and families across the region.
Making Soccer More Accessible
For many families, the cost of youth sports, transportation and equipment can make it difficult for children to participate.
StationSoccer, led by nonprofit Soccer in the Streets, helps remove those barriers by offering free soccer programming at locations accessible by MARTA.
The new H.E. Holmes field is especially meaningful for Mayor Dickens, who grew up in nearby Adamsville and has supported the initiative since his time on Atlanta City Council.
The project also reflects the City’s continued focus on creating safe spaces for young people to stay active, build friendships and develop skills that extend beyond the soccer field.
A Decade of Teamwork
StationSoccer began 10 years ago through a partnership involving the City of Atlanta, MARTA, Atlanta United and Soccer in the Streets.
The H.E. Holmes expansion was supported by the City through Invest Atlanta, alongside community and corporate partners.
Earlier this year, Amazon also contributed $100,000 to Soccer in the Streets and another $100,000 to the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program, supporting additional opportunities for Atlanta youth.
Keeping the Soccer Legacy Going
The celebration comes just months after Atlanta hosted the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing the world’s biggest soccer tournament to the city.
Now, the focus is on making sure that excitement creates lasting opportunities for local children.
With seven StationSoccer locations across the region, more young people have access to a place to play, develop their skills and be part of a team.
For families in and around H.E. Holmes, that means a new soccer field close to home and more opportunities for children to get in the game.
