The conversation continues.
Following the first Restoration Memorial & Preserve community meeting earlier this month at Coan Park Recreation Center, the City of Atlanta is inviting residents to join the next meeting on Wednesday, February 25, at the Grant Park Recreation Center.
The planning effort focuses on the former Atlanta Prison Farm site — more than 100 acres of historically significant land near Intrenchment Creek within the South River watershed. The long-term vision is to create a public green space that restores the environment while honoring the site’s layered history.

Continuing the Community Conversation
The February 25 meeting will build on the initial discussion and dive deeper into the History and Memorialization components of the master plan.
During the first session, residents reviewed early historical, archaeological, and ecological findings and shared feedback that will help guide future planning. The upcoming meeting will provide additional opportunities to:
- Learn more about the site’s documented history
- Discuss how memorialization should be approached
- Share ideas for reflection, education, and healing
- Continue providing input as the master plan develops
This planning process includes four public meetings in 2026, giving residents multiple opportunities to stay involved as the vision takes shape.
Why It Matters
The Restoration Memorial & Preserve planning effort is rooted in stewardship and community guidance. The site carries environmental, historical, and cultural significance — and the City is committed to ensuring its future reflects the voices of Atlanta residents.
Community participation now will help shape how the land is preserved, restored, and remembered for generations to come.
