Building Opportunity in Grove Park

The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUDC) have received a transformative land gift from Microsoft Corporation that will help create new opportunities for families in the Grove Park neighborhood. The 22.5-acre parcel—part of the larger Quarry Yards property—will be transferred to the City through AUDC and developed into a community hub designed to serve residents’ everyday needs.

This partnership marks a major step toward delivering on a promise made when Microsoft purchased the 90-acre Quarry Yards property in 2021: to reserve a quarter of the site for community use and ensure local residents benefit from the investment.

Connecting Residents to Essential Resources

The donated land fronts Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and will link residents to key neighborhood amenities including KIPP Woodson Park Academy and the Grove Park Recreation Center. These connections will support youth, families, and seniors alike—ensuring the site becomes a cornerstone for community life.

“We are grateful that Microsoft has decided to partner with us to build more affordable housing in the Grove Park community,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “This contribution will bolster our efforts to provide affordable housing and enrich community resources that are essential to the well-being of our residents.”

A Shared Vision for Inclusive Growth

Microsoft’s partnership with the City reflects a broader commitment to inclusive economic development and long-term affordability in Atlanta.

“Through this land donation, we’re advancing a shared vision for Atlanta that supports families, empowers students, and strengthens local communities,” said Kia Floyd, General Manager of State Government Affairs for Microsoft. “We’re honored to partner with the City and AUDC to make this a reality.”

The land transfer is expected to be completed in Summer 2026, with planning and community engagement underway.

Transforming Public Land into Public Good

The Atlanta Urban Development Corporation, a non-profit subsidiary of Atlanta Housing, will oversee the development of the site. AUDC’s mission is to convert publicly owned land into mixed-income housing and community assets that remain affordable for generations.

“This partnership with Microsoft represents a significant step toward enhancing the quality of life for residents in Grove Park,” said John Majors, CEO of AUDC. “By leveraging public-private collaboration, we can create spaces that meet community needs and foster long-term opportunity.”

This initiative supports Mayor Dickens’ goal to create or preserve 20,000 affordable housing units by 2029, ensuring equitable access to quality homes and community amenities for all Atlantans.
