Four Years In: Moving Atlanta Forward Is Delivering Across Atlanta

Four years after Atlanta voters approved Moving Atlanta Forward, projects are taking shape across the city — from safer streets and sidewalks to neighborhood parks, recreation centers and public safety facilities.

The City Auditor’s August 2026 Moving Atlanta Forward Annual Review shows the work has reached a significant point: all projects in the original Strategic Delivery Plan have started, spending has increased and more projects are moving into construction and completion.

And the work continues to advance. As of July 31, 53% of Moving Atlanta Forward projects are now in construction or closeout.

What’s Changed Since 2022

When voters approved Moving Atlanta Forward in 2022, the City also committed to stronger oversight and greater transparency around how infrastructure projects were delivered.

Since then, the City has created a dedicated Moving Atlanta Forward Program Management Office within the Mayor’s Office to track budgets, schedules and project risks across departments.

“Moving Atlanta Forward is a commitment we made to the people of Atlanta, and I’m proud of the teams who have stayed focused on getting this work done,” said Chief Operating Officer LaChandra Burks. “The latest audit shows how far we’ve come and also helps us see where we can do better. That’s part of the work. What matters is that these investments are moving forward and making a difference in neighborhoods across our city.”

The public project dashboard is now centrally managed and updated through a monthly review process. The August 2026 review found controls are in place to identify and track projects at risk of budget or schedule problems. Two previous audit recommendations related to the dashboard have been fully implemented and closed.

What the Audit Found

  • All planned projects have started
  • Spending increased $65 million in FY2026
  • Most projects advanced at least one phase
  • Centralized program oversight is now in place
  • Two previous dashboard recommendations are complete

Where the Work Stands

Transportation | 159 Active Projects

The Atlanta Department of Transportation manages one of the largest Moving Atlanta Forward portfolios, with 48% of projects in construction or closeout as of July 31.

Current work includes Safe Streets improvements on 15th Street, Glen Iris Drive and LaFrance Street, along with sidewalk projects on Childress Drive, Northside Parkway and Harbin Road.

The work supports the City’s continued focus on safer streets and better connections between Atlanta neighborhoods.

Parks & Recreation | 92% in Construction or Closeout

Parks projects are among the furthest along in the program with 92% now in construction or closeout as of July 31.

Work includes Brownwood Park Recreation Center, Thomasville Recreation Center, artificial turf fields at Central Park and Mozley Park, and six renovated neighborhood pools.

These investments support Mayor Andre Dickens’ focus on improving neighborhood spaces for children and families and making Atlanta the best major city in the country to raise a child.

Public Safety | All 12 Projects Underway

All 12 public safety facility projects have moved beyond the “not started” phase.

Projects include Fire Stations 25, 26, 30 and 31, the Zone 4 Police Precinct and E911 Center.

The audit also found that the Department of Enterprise Asset Management more than doubled its Moving Atlanta Forward project spending from August 2025 to June 2026.

The work is part of the City’s broader investment in the facilities and infrastructure behind Atlanta’s public safety response.

Progress — And Work Still Ahead

The audit also identified areas for continued improvement, including project documentation and financial tracking, with departments taking steps to address the findings.

That continued independent review is part of the accountability built into Moving Atlanta Forward — tracking progress while identifying where improvements are still needed.

There is still work ahead, but Atlanta is carrying real momentum forward. After a successful FIFA World Cup that brought infrastructure improvements and investments designed to last beyond the tournament, Moving Atlanta Forward represents another major piece of what comes next — continued investment in the streets, parks, public safety facilities and neighborhoods Atlantans rely on every day.

Together with the Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative and other long-term investments, the work is helping turn a major moment for Atlanta into progress that lasts.
