ATLANTA—Mayor Andre Dickens, ATLDOT Commissioner Solomon Caviness and City leaders will join small businesses and residents to host an event celebrating the official reopening of Cascade Road, reconnecting the community with Cascade Heights businesses in Southwest Atlanta.
The road fully reopened to traffic on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after ATLDOT implemented an around-the-clock construction schedule from August 11-16, 2025, to expedite completion or resurfacing—paving the way for the removal of detours and direct access to Cascade corridor businesses.
The event will be held Wednesday August 27, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the corner of Cascade Road and Benjamin E. Mays Drive SW (Atlanta, GA 30311). Parking is available Providence Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2295 Benjamin E. Mayes Drive SW, Atlanta, GA, 30311.
Media is encouraged to RSVP to atlmedia@atlantaga.gov.
From new sidewalks to future streetlights, the Cascade Road enhancements are part of a broader infrastructure vision to transform how residents move, connect and experience public space in Southwest Atlanta.
Key improvements include:
- Resurfaced roadway from Willis Mill Road SW to Kingsdale Drive SW
- New sidewalks along the northern edge for safer pedestrian access
- Multi-modal paths for bikers and joggers
- A future upgrade to include benches, lighting, and trash receptacles
