The City of Atlanta brought joy, connection, and inclusive celebration to the heart of East Atlanta during the Intergenerational Fun Day at Coan Park, honoring Disability Pride Month and the campers of Camp Best Friend’s Therapeutic Summer Camp Program

Hosted in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and the Department of Parks and Recreation, the event united youth campers, families, aging adults, community members, and city leaders for a day of play, creativity, and shared experiences.

The Fun Day was designed to bridge generations while promoting acceptance, accessibility, and the celebration of diverse abilities, serving as a showcase for the Therapeutic Camp’s mission — providing recreation opportunities tailored to children and teens of all abilities. Throughout the summer, Camp Best Friend’s Therapeutic Camp offers adaptive programming, skill-building activities, and an environment that nurtures confidence and friendship.

Parents and caregivers praised the event for offering a unique opportunity to connect with other families and for the way it encouraged cross-generational understanding. Local seniors expressed joy at being able to participate alongside younger attendees, noting that the day fostered both mentorship and mutual learning.

As Disability Pride Month draws to a close, events like the Intergenerational Fun Day reinforce Atlanta’s commitment to ensuring all residents can live, work, play, and thrive without barriers.
