A New Market for the People: Goodr Community Market Opens on Edgewood

A key step toward the Cityโ€™s goal of healthy food within reach for 85% of Atlantans

On July 17, neighbors, community leaders, and City officials gathered in the Sweet Auburn district to celebrate a milestone for food access in Atlantaโ€”the grand opening of the Goodr Community Market and Little Loaf Deli on Edgewood Avenue.

Mayor Andre Dickens joined Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari, Jasmine Crowe-Houston of Goodr, Invest Atlanta, and BeOnEdgewood partners for the ribbon cutting, marking the launch of Goodrโ€™s very first public community grocery store.

โ€œThis is the blueprint for what can happen when local government, business, and community all come together,โ€ said Mayor Dickens. โ€œThatโ€™s the group project Iโ€™m always talking about.โ€

Located at 381 Edgewood Avenue SE, the new market is filling a critical need in a neighborhood where a walk to the nearest grocery store could take more than 30 minutes. It offers affordable groceries, including SNAP-eligible items, andโ€”most importantlyโ€”allows 200 pre-selected families and seniors in District 5 to shop for free each month.

And itโ€™s not just groceries. Little Loaf Deli, located inside the market, serves fresh, made-to-order sandwiches for $5 or less, with kid-friendly options also on the menu.

Backed by more than $300,000 in support from Invest Atlanta, this community-first initiative directly supports the Mayorโ€™s goal of ensuring that 85% of Atlantans live within a half-mile of fresh, healthy food by the end of this year.

“Food access is a priority. Itโ€™s a need,โ€ Mayor Dickens said. โ€œAnd itโ€™s something weโ€™re going to keep showing up for in every single neighborhood across this city.โ€

From free groceries for families to $5 meals made with care, the Goodr Community Market on Edgewood is proof of whatโ€™s possible when Atlanta invests in equity, innovation, and people.
