Thriving Together Atlanta Unveiled the First of Two Murals Designed to Bring Atlantans Together to Promote Change and Address Public Health Disparities

In April, Thriving Together Atlanta, a collaborative effort between the City of Atlanta Mayorโ€™s Office of Cultural Affairs, the National Black Arts Festival, and Out of Hand Theater, unveiled the first of two murals as a part of a series of public art events designed to bring Atlantans together to promote change and address public health disparities head-on. The muralist C Flux Sing (Craig โ€˜Fluxโ€™ Singleton) revealed his design, titledย The Old 4th, Forward to Victory. The mural, located at 455 North Avenue NE, reflects the community’s voices, shared experiences, and hopes for the future. Following the unveiling, the event continued at the Darwin Hotel for an Equitable meal hosted by Out of Hand Theater.

“It was a beautiful experience being surrounded by the spirit of Old Fourth Ward,” said C Flux Sing. “From the moment I was chosen as the artist, to the enthusiastic collaboration of those who joined me in painting and revitalizing the area earlier this month, every step wasย strides in the city’s goal of ‘thriving together.’ I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished.”

Earlier this year, following presentations from the five artist finalists, community members participated in a voting session at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. The community ultimately selected Singleton as the preferred artist. Singleton’s design features a unique blend of elements that reflect the neighborhood’s culture and history, incorporating the communityโ€™s shared journey and diverse aspirations. It serves as a powerful reminder of the collective strength needed to achieve health, safety, and victory.

โ€œThis mural is more than just artโ€”itโ€™s a symbol of unity, victory, and progress,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “It reflects our commitment to bringing Atlantans together, fostering meaningful dialogue, and showing how we thrive as one city. Through efforts like this, weโ€™re not just beautifying spacesโ€”weโ€™re building bridges and strengthening the fabric of our communities.โ€

The mural project is part of Thriving Together Atlantaโ€™s work to inspire action and build partnerships that will create positive changes that prioritize addressing health disparities to improve the health outcomes for everyone in the city. The collaborative effort also seeks to help Atlantans fully understand the health disparities affecting Atlanta by critically examining the historical context and root causes of health disparities.

Thriving Together Atlanta murals are also made possible by the generous support of Global Champion LLC and Gucci Changemakers.
