This summer, Streetz 94.5 radio personality and Community Impact Officer J-Smoke, known to listeners as “Atlanta’s favorite nephew,” teamed up with the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation to host the Fresh Cutz Series.
Held at C.T. Martin, William Walker, and Grove Park recreation centers, the series offered free haircuts from celebrity barbers, bookbags filled with school supplies, and fun activities like virtual reality games, frozen treats, and basketball free play. More than 700 families in Northwest and Southwest Atlanta took part.
Atlanta City Councilmembers Andrea Boone, Marci Collier Overstreet, and Byron Amos joined the effort, showing how community leaders can come together across districts to support youth and families.
“When I first came up with this initiative, Atlanta Parks and Recreation was my first call,” said J-Smoke. “As we know, T.I. loves his city, and he and Grand Hustle and the Trap Museum donated generously to fund this vision to give back to Atlanta’s youth.”
The Fresh Cutz Series also drew support from partners including Allen Law, Overtime Elite, Nagel Law, and Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
“Today, people feel so disconnected from local government,” J-Smoke added. “But Atlanta is a hyper-political environment where leaders don’t forget where they came from. Events like Fresh Cutz let us link up with our officials and make positive change.”
