After operating for years in smaller or transitional formats, owners Ken Katz and Jeannette Flores-Katz unveiled their long-envisioned full-service concept at 1975 Sylvan Road SW, transforming a former barbecue joint into a vibrant community hub called of La Bodega Market & Pupuseria in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood.
Ken and Jeannette began their journey with a take-away concept at The MET in Adair Park, where they first introduced Atlanta to their version of Salvadoran bodega cuisine and pop-up chef collaborations. Their move to Sylvan Hills is more than a relocation — it’s the realization of their original intent: to combine a Latin-inspired kitchen with a small grocery market selling fresh produce, pantry staples, and locally sourced products.
Invest Atlanta supported the project through a Commercial Down Payment Assistance loan, recognizing the importance of improving food access in this part of the city. The location falls within a USDA-designated food desert, making La Bodega’s presence particularly meaningful for local residents.
More than just a new spot to grab lunch, La Bodega aims to become a neighborhood anchor: a place where food, community, and opportunity come together. Visit La Bodega and Buenos Dias Cafe Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 – 2:30pm.
