Community leaders, firefighters, and neighbors gathered today to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Fire Station 25 at 2349 Benjamin E. Mays Drive SW. The $11.28 million project, funded through the Moving Atlanta Forward bond, will replace the existing facility with a modern, two-story station featuring three fire truck bays, upgraded living quarters, offices, and a decontamination room.
Designed by DEAM and built by Manhattan RFB Contractors, the 12,500-square-foot building will meet LEED Silver sustainability standards and blend brick, metal, and glass to create an efficient, lasting addition to the neighborhood.
“Today, we break ground on the new Fire Station 25. It’s going to be a modern, upgraded facility right here in Southwest Atlanta, a neighborhood many of us call home,” said Mayor Andre Dickens.
Fire Chief Rod Smith praised the investment, noting that the new facility will better support firefighters who respond to emergencies daily. Local councilmembers Marci Collier Overstreet and Andrea Boone, along with NPU-S Chairperson Quadrus Black, also shared how important the project is for Southwest Atlanta families.
Station 25 is part of the City’s One Safe City plan, which prioritizes faster emergency response and stronger support for public safety personnel. “Station 25 is part of our One Safe City plan…a promise that the people who call this community home will have quick emergency response and a fire team ready when lives are on the line,” Dickens added.
This project joins other recent public safety investments in Southwest Atlanta, including the new Zone 4 Police Precinct and the Public Safety Training Center that opened earlier this year. Together, these efforts show the City’s commitment to creating safer neighborhoods and stronger support for the personnel who serve them.
Partnership was a recurring theme throughout the ceremony. “Atlanta is a group project,” Dickens reminded the crowd. “We can’t do this alone, and all of you—everyone gathered here today—help make the progress we’re seeing across Atlanta possible.”
