Atlantans take pride in their streets, and our Public Works Department is proud to serve the community by keeping them beautiful. But taking care of our roadways can be dangerous.
Solid waste collection is the seventh-deadliest industry in the US. So, what can you do to ensure the safety of our workers?
Move over and Slow Down to Get Around.
Under Georgia’s Move Over Law, drivers approaching a vehicle with active sanitation workers must either make a lane change or, if a lane change is not possible, reduce speed and be prepared to stop.
If you are able to safely pass, look out for workers and other drivers when attempting to go around. Go slow and leave at least two feet between you and the sanitation vehicle.
Taking a little extra time on your drive to be aware of our sanitation workers ensures everybody gets home safely at the end of a long day.
