The City of Atlanta is going all-in on Earth Month this April, with a full lineup of events aimed at tackling local climate challenges and celebrating community-driven sustainability efforts.

Led by the Mayorโ€™s Office of Sustainability and Resilience (MOSR), the month-long celebration will highlight key areas of concern for Atlantaโ€”extreme heat, drought, and floodingโ€”through a mix of educational events, hands-on activities, and major policy initiatives.

โ€œThis Earth Month is about more than raising awarenessโ€”itโ€™s about taking action,โ€ said Chandra Farley, Atlantaโ€™s Chief Sustainability Officer. โ€œFrom global partnerships to youth leadership, Atlanta is stepping up to build a resilient future.โ€

    Earth Month Highlights

April 1 โ€“ Race to Resilience Kickoff

Atlanta officially joins the Race to Resilience, a United Nations-supported initiative focused on protecting communities from climate risks. Locally, the city will focus on expanding its tree canopy, promoting solar energy, reducing food waste, and introducing climate-smart solutions through the upcoming Climate Resilient ATL plan.

April 22 โ€“ Earth Day & Youth Climate Action Fund

On Earth Day, MOSR will announce $85,000 in grant funding for youth-led climate projects, in partnership with EarthDay.org and Bloomberg Philanthropies. A Youth Climate Action Summit will be held at City Hall to celebrate local student leaders and their innovative ideas for environmental change.

April 24 โ€“ Sustainability in Action Day at City Hall

City Hall will host an interactive event featuring local organizations, workshops, and food vendors focused on urban agriculture and sustainable living. The event will spotlight initiatives like AgLanta, which helps local growers turn vacant lots into productive green spaces.

April 30 โ€“ Climate Resilient ATL Plan Kickoff

The city will launch a major community engagement campaign for its first comprehensive climate resilience plan. Developed with 18 months of community input, the Climate Resilient ATL plan will guide how Atlanta adapts to and prepares for the effects of climate change.

    Get Involved

Residents are encouraged to join in the celebration and learn more about how they can support local sustainability efforts. A full calendar of events is available at atlantaga.gov, and updates will be shared via social media at @ATLResilience.
