Neighbors, business owners, and community leaders came together last night to celebrate the official reopening of Cascade Road. After months of construction and detours, the road is open again—and Mayor Andre Dickens joined the crowd at the Cascade Road and Benjamin E. Mays intersection to mark the moment.
The evening kicked off with a welcome from Commissioner Solomon Caviness before Mayor Dickens took the mic. He thanked the ATLDOT crews who worked 12-hour shifts, through tough weather, to get the road open a full week ahead of schedule. “Cascade businesses and residents finally have full access again,” the Mayor said. “And this is just the start—new streetlights, benches, and upgrades are coming to keep improving this community we all love.”
The project is part of the Cascade Road/Avenue Complete Street initiative, aimed at making Southwest Atlanta safer, more connected, and easier to navigate. The reopening also means businesses along the corridor can fully welcome back customers after months of detours.
More than 200 people turned out for the celebration, enjoying music from the DJ as neighbors, city officials, and local leaders marked the end of construction and the return of full access to the area.
