As Atlanta prepares to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, our youth are already stepping into the excitement. Campers from Camp Best Friends, the City of Atlantaโs signature summer camp program, recently had the opportunity to attend two thrilling FIFA Club World Cup matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadiumโoffering an exclusive seat to global soccer and Atlantaโs rising international profile.
On Sunday, June 29, campers cheered on Paris Saint-Germain as they took on Inter Miami in a high-energy 4โ0 match. Mayor Andre Dickens joined the crowd, showing his support for youth engagement and making sure Atlantaโs young people are part of this global moment. Then on
Tuesday, July 1, campers returned to watch Borussia Dortmund edge out Monterrey in a 2โ1 showdown. Parks and Recreation Commissioner Justin Cutler attended both matches with his son, celebrating alongside campers and reinforcing the departmentโs commitment to equity, access, and unforgettable experiences.
The biggest highlight? The tickets were a surpriseโrevealed to the campers during their Soccer Camp programming at Collier Park Recreation Center. The joy, cheers, and excitement when they found out they’d be attending the FIFA Club World Cup matches was just as memorable as the games themselves.
These matches werenโt just excitingโthey were meaningful. For over 40 years, Camp Best Friends has served thousands of Atlanta youth with enriching, affordable summer programming. Founded in 1981, the camp provides structured activities in arts, sports, education, and cultural exploration across multiple citywide locations. This year, that mission was elevated with the chance to connect local youth to the international spirit of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The experience was made possible by the collaboration of FIFA, Showcase Atlanta, MARTA Transit, the City of Atlanta, and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Special thanks to MARTA for supplying Breeze cards, which helped campers travel safely and easily to the stadium.
As Atlanta builds momentum toward the 2026 World Cup, opportunities like this ensure that our youth arenโt just watching historyโtheyโre part of it.
From the stands to the smiles, Atlantaโs next generation is World Cup ready.
