Enhancements completed at Brownwood Park have made the space more welcoming and usable for families, youth, and neighbors.

Updates include:

  • A new multi-age playground with activity zones designed for younger children, older youth, and teens
  • Fully resurfaced tennis courts featuring a signature mural created through the Art in the Paint initiative by Atlanta artist Drew Borders
  • Improvements to park entrances that strengthen access into the site

Together, these upgrades support safer play, expanded recreation opportunities, and stronger connections between neighbors and their park.

 Recreation center upgrades coming next

Renovations to the Brownwood Park Recreation Center are the next phase of improvements planned through the Moving Atlanta Forward program. Work is expected to begin soon following issuance of the project purchase order.

These upgrades will help modernize the facility and strengthen its role as a hub for youth programming, athletics, and community gatherings in East Atlanta.

Continued investment in accessibility and gathering space

Additional improvements planned across the park campus include:

  • ADA-compliant sidewalks and pathways
  • An inclusive playground expansion
  • A new pavilion and grill area supported through community partnership funding
  • Stormwater and flood-mitigation upgrades to improve long-term site resilience

These efforts reflect a coordinated investment strategy combining City infrastructure funding with support from neighborhood organizations and philanthropic partners.

A community partnership years in the making

Brownwood Park’s transformation reflects collaboration between the City of Atlanta and local partners including the East Atlanta Kids Club, Friends of Brownwood Park, and the East Atlanta Community Association.

Support from community leaders and national partners also helped strengthen recent playground and tennis court improvements, expanding opportunities for youth recreation in the neighborhood.

As part of the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Moving Atlanta Forward investment portfolio, Brownwood Park improvements represent one of many projects helping modernize parks and recreation spaces across Atlanta’s neighborhoods—ensuring residents have safe, welcoming places to gather, play, and connect.
