Following the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, the complete tournament match schedule is now available, confirming that Atlanta will host eight matches, including a Round of 16 matchup and a semifinal. It’s one of the biggest milestones yet on our Road to FIFA, and residents felt the excitement immediately.

A lively crowd gathered in Buckhead Village for Atlanta’s outdoor watch party as the groups were revealed. Fans arrived in jerseys and flags from all over the world, turning the plaza into an early preview of what next summer will feel like. The energy was unmistakable: the World Cup is getting real, and Atlanta is ready.

Hosting a semifinal places Atlanta among a very small group of cities playing a defining role in the tournament.

Atlanta Fans Made the Moment a Celebration

Even though the draw took place in Washington, D.C., Atlanta turned Buckhead Village into its own celebration zone. The watch party drew families, diehard soccer supporters, and residents who simply wanted to be part of a historic moment for the city.

Mayor Andre Dickens joined the crowd and shared what this milestone means personally and for Atlanta.

“My life couldn’t get any better — I was here for the Olympic Games in Atlanta, and now I get to see the World Cup here in Atlanta,” Mayor Dickens said.
“As a native, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Atlanta Sports Council and Atlanta World Cup Host Committee President Dan Corso highlighted the city’s strong position as a host.

“Atlanta’s rich soccer culture, world-class infrastructure, and legendary hospitality make us the perfect stage for these nations and their World Cup pursuit,” Corso said.

What This Means for Our City

The FIFA World Cup™ is a moment of global recognition and local opportunity.

  • Small businesses, hotels, and restaurants are preparing for an unprecedented wave of visitors.
  • Legacy programs are expanding youth soccer access across Georgia.
  • Cultural, mobility, and public space improvements are accelerating ahead of 2026.

Mayor Dickens underscored the importance for Atlanta’s neighborhoods and business community:

“The economic impact is going to be huge. We are ready to welcome the world to Atlanta.”
