Hundreds of Atlanta seniors came together Wednesday, August 26, for the Aging Better Expo, a day of health and wellness activities, useful information and opportunities to connect with City services and community organizations.

Atlanta News First/WANF hosted the event at the Ivy Community Center in southwest Atlanta. Mayor Andre Dickens joined Monica Kaufman Pearson for a conversation about resources for older Atlantans and the importance of helping seniors remain active, independent and connected to their communities.

The Expo included cybersecurity and estate planning information, health and wellness resources, cooking demonstrations, senior exercise sessions, bingo, mahjong, entertainment and giveaways.

City departments and programs were also on hand to connect residents with services, including the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services Commission on Aging, Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Watershed Management and Atlanta Fire Rescue.

The Expo also provided information for caregivers supporting parents, spouses and other loved ones.

More to Come

Atlanta’s next major event for older residents will be the Mayor’s Senior Ball on Friday, October 2, with this year’s theme, “A Royal Renaissance: Legacy, Honor, Elegance.”

Resources for Older Atlantans

The City of Atlanta Commission on Aging advises the Mayor and City Council on issues affecting older residents, including transportation, public safety, housing, recreation, sanitation and social support services. The Commission also gives seniors a way to share concerns directly with the City.

The Department of Parks and Recreation’s Primetime Seniors program serves adults 55 and older, and its 2026-2027 season begins September 8. Programming is free for City of Atlanta residents and includes bingo, arts and crafts, jewelry making, line dancing, board games, chair aerobics, computer activities, yoga and Pilates, sewing and quilting, and day trips.

Residents can register through iPARCS or visit their preferred City of Atlanta recreation center. For questions about Primetime Seniors, call 404-624-0669 or 404-520-2641.

For additional programs, services and resources for older Atlantans, visit the City of Atlanta Commission on Aging. The Commission also gives older residents an opportunity to share feedback with the City about issues affecting Atlanta’s senior community
