Atlanta Says NO MORE: October Brings a Month of Action Against Domestic Violence

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the City of Atlanta is asking residents to turn awareness into action.

Through the Mayor’s Office of Violence Reduction, Atlanta Says NO MORE is bringing residents, City leaders and community partners together throughout the month to raise awareness, support survivors and help prevent domestic violence.

So far in 2026, 1,844 domestic violence incidents have been reported in Atlanta, including 290 aggravated assaults. Those numbers are a reminder of why knowing the signs—and knowing how to help—matters.

Silence the Shame's mission is to empower and educate communities on mental health and wellness.

Why It Matters

Domestic violence is not always visible, and it is not always physical. Abuse can include intimidation, isolation, threats, controlling someone’s money or phone, monitoring where they go, or physical and sexual violence.

When Atlanta Says NO MORE launched in 2024, Mayor Andre Dickens called on Atlantans to talk openly about domestic violence and make sure people know where to turn for help.

“By discussing it, recognizing the signs, providing resources—and simply being available—we have the power to end domestic violence, together.”

Friends, relatives, coworkers and neighbors can all play a role. If you are concerned about someone, check in, listen without judgment, believe them and help connect them with support.

Get Involved This October

The City is hosting a series of events and initiatives throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month, including the Paint Atlanta Purple Campaign, which encourages residents and businesses to show solidarity with survivors by lighting their homes, workplaces and other spaces purple throughout October.

The month will also feature opportunities to learn, show support and take action as part of the City’s continued “Not on My Watch” message.

Do One Thing

Helping does not have to start with a big gesture. Know the signs. Check in. Listen. Support survivors. Speak up.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, resources and information are also available through Atlanta Says NO MORE.

Domestic violence has no place in Atlanta. Together, Atlanta Says NO MORE.
