Crime continues to trend down across Atlanta, with declines in several major crime categories compared with this time last year.
Mayor Andre Dickens shared the latest numbers Tuesday at Crime is Toast, the Atlanta Police Foundation’s annual gathering recognizing Atlanta Police Department officers and the public-private partnerships supporting public safety.
So far this year:
- Overall citywide crime is down nearly 13%
- Vehicle thefts are down 20%
- Robberies are down 19%
- Burglaries are down 17%
The mayor also reported that homicides decreased 43% from when he took office through the end of last year, with another year-over-year decline on track for 2026.
“To be clear, any Atlanta homicide is one too many,” Dickens said. “But we also need to recognize progress when we see it.”
Recognizing APD Officers
The annual breakfast also recognizes members of APD for their work serving Atlanta.
This year, Jack Carter was named Officer of the Year, DeShure Raston was named Investigator of the Year and Adrian Brinn received the Department Commendation.
Former Mayor Shirley Franklin and Sam Pettway, founder and chairman of Boardwalk Consulting, received the Legacy Champion Award for helping establish the partnership that became the Atlanta Police Foundation more than two decades ago.
The City, APD and Atlanta Police Foundation continue to work together on officer recruitment and retention, training, technology and other resources aimed at improving public safety across Atlanta.
