Twenty-six newly trained officers are now preparing to serve in neighborhoods across the city following Tuesday night’s graduation of Class 293 at the Atlanta Police Department Academy.
For residents, that means more officers on patrol, stronger response capacity, and continued investment in safer streets under the One Safe City pillar.
Strengthening One Safe City
During remarks at the Public Safety Training Center, Mayor Andre Dickens reminded graduates that public safety remains his administration’s top priority.
“If families do not feel secure in their homes, if children do not feel safe in their neighborhoods, progress in any other area does not hold,” he said.
Class 293 completed more than 900 hours of academy instruction, including constitutional policing, de-escalation techniques, defensive tactics, firearms training, and community engagement. The curriculum is designed to prepare officers to respond professionally and thoughtfully in a wide range of situations.
Violent crime continues trending downward compared to prior years, and the addition of 26 officers strengthens staffing levels across patrol zones citywide.
Training Built for Today’s Policing
The Public Safety Training Center provides modern classrooms, advanced simulation tools, and scenario-based exercises to ensure officers are ready for real-world challenges.
From high-risk incidents to community interactions and low-level service calls, the focus remains on preparedness, accountability, and building trust. The administration continues investing in competitive salaries, equipment upgrades, and ongoing professional development for officers at every stage of their careers.
A Class That Chose to Serve
Members of Class 293 came from across Georgia and several other states, including New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas.
“You chose to serve this city, and we thank you for answering that call,” Mayor Dickens told the graduates.
Family members and friends gathered to watch diploma presentations and badge pinning, marking the culmination of months of training and commitment.
Carrying the Badge with Trust
Graduation signals the beginning of active duty assignments throughout the city. Each officer now carries both authority and responsibility.
“Protect the vulnerable. Uphold the Constitution. Serve every resident with dignity,” the Mayor said.
The 26 new officers join the Atlanta Police Department at a time when law enforcement is working alongside CARE Units and youth-focused initiatives like @Promise Centers to strengthen safety from multiple angles.
