Sylvan Hills officially welcomed a new neighborhood gem. The Sylvan Hills pupusería as La Bodega Market & Pupusería opened its doors with music, laughter, and the smell of fresh pupusas filling the air. Mayor Andre Dickens joined owners Jeannette Flores-Katz and Ken Katz for the ribbon cutting, calling it “the perfect way to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month—celebrating small business owners who invest in our neighborhoods and keep traditions alive.”

The shop is Atlanta’s first pupusería, specializing in the thick, stuffed griddle cakes that are El Salvador’s national dish. Alongside pupusas, neighbors can now pick up fresh produce, locally sourced staples, and Latin American favorites—all within walking distance.

The project came to life through a mix of passion and partnership. With support from an Invest Atlanta commercial loan and Food Access Catalyst Grant, La BodegaAtl is expanding healthy food choices while supporting small business growth in Southwest Atlanta.

Owners Jeannette and Ken say their vision is simple: create a space that feels like home. “We wanted to bring a taste of El Salvador to Sylvan Hills and also create a place where neighbors feel welcome,” said Flores-Katz.

As the afternoon rolled on, guests lingered over plates of steaming pupusas, snapped photos with the Mayor, and swapped stories in the aisles of the new market. It was more than a ribbon cutting, it felt like the start of a new gathering spot for the neighborhood.

La BodegaAtl is now open at 1975 Sylvan Rd SW. Stop by to grab fresh produce, sip coffee in the café, or enjoy a hot pupusa made by hand. In Sylvan Hills, food, culture, and community have found a new home.
