As Atlanta prepares to welcome the world for this summer’s global soccer spotlight, a new way to play is coming to one of the city’s most beloved neighborhood courses.
The City of Atlanta is introducing FootGolf at Candler Park Golf Course, blending the strategy of golf with the simplicity of soccer. Timed with the excitement surrounding international competition arriving in Atlanta, the program creates a fun, accessible activity for residents and visitors alike.
Atlanta City Golf will host a virtual public meeting on Thursday, March 26, from 6 to 7 pm to share details about FootGolf, explain how it will be played alongside traditional golf, and answer community questions.
What is FootGolf?
FootGolf is played on a golf course using a soccer ball instead of clubs. Players kick the ball toward larger holes positioned along the course, following rules similar to traditional golf.
Many familiar golf traditions still apply:
- The player farthest from the hole goes next
- The lowest score on the previous hole tees off first
- Play follows the same pace and courtesy as golf
The result is a sport that feels familiar to golfers but instantly approachable for anyone who can kick a ball.
A natural fit for Candler Park
Candler Park Golf Course is especially well suited for FootGolf. As a nine-hole, walking-only course, it offers the right setting to introduce the sport alongside traditional golf.
The program is designed to complement existing play while opening the course to new audiences, including families, younger players, and anyone curious to try something new.
Easy to try, fun to share
One of the biggest draws of FootGolf is how simple it is to get started. There’s no need for clubs or prior golf experience. Players only need a soccer ball, and rentals will be available at the course.
Across the country, FootGolf has become a way for different generations to enjoy the course together, whether playing side by side or trying something new as a family.
