The people who teach Atlanta’s children, respond to emergencies and keep City services running should have opportunities to live in the communities they serve.
That’s the goal behind Mayor Andre Dickens’ Public Employee Affordable Citywide Housing (PEACH) initiative.
On Saturday, October 24, the City of Atlanta hosted its third Public Sector Employee Housing Expo at Frederick Douglass High School, connecting City employees, Atlanta Public Schools staff and other public-sector workers with resources for renting and buying homes.
The event brought together more than 45 housing professionals, lenders, real estate experts, housing counselors and community partners to help employees better understand their options.
What’s new for public employees?
The City is expanding housing resources beyond the expo through PEACH:
- PEACH Newsletter: Two editions have already been published, sharing housing opportunities and resources with employees.
- PEACH Portal: Launching with the November newsletter, the portal will provide a dedicated place for public employees to explore housing programs and assistance.
- Online income calculator: A new Area Median Income (AMI) calculator helps employees understand income guidelines and identify housing opportunities that may fit their household.
The initiative supports employees at different stages, whether they’re renting, saving for their first home, preparing to purchase or considering moving back into Atlanta.
The effort is part of the Dickens Administration’s larger affordable housing commitment. Atlanta’s development pipeline includes nearly 15,000 affordable housing units completed, funded or under construction, moving toward the City’s goal of creating or preserving 20,000 affordable units by 2030.
By making housing information easier to access, the City aims to help retain public employees, strengthen its workforce and give more of the people who serve Atlanta an opportunity to call it home.
