A major stretch of Browns Mill Road is newly resurfaced, marking the completion of a nearly $865,000 investment in one of Southeast Atlanta’s key neighborhood corridors.
Mayor Andre Dickens joined District 12 Councilmember Antonio Lewis, Atlanta Department of Transportation Commissioner Solomon Caviness IV and community members Thursday to cut the ribbon on the completed Browns Mill Road resurfacing project.
The work covered more than a mile of Browns Mill Road and improves a route used every day by residents of Glenrose Heights, Rosedale Heights, Orchard Knob, Browns Mill Park and surrounding communities.
For residents, the project means a smoother roadway, improved conditions and a safer, more reliable trip through the area.
More Than $10 Million for Sidewalks Is Next
The work on Browns Mill Road isn’t stopping with resurfacing.
Mayor Dickens announced that the City has invested more than $10 million to begin building sidewalks along Browns Mill Road in 2027, addressing a need residents have continued to raise.
The planned sidewalk investment will make it easier and safer for people who travel the corridor without a car, including residents walking to transit, children traveling to school and seniors moving through the neighborhood.
Investing in Southeast Atlanta
The Browns Mill Road improvements are also part of a broader push to direct more City investment into neighborhoods in South and West Atlanta.
Through the Dickens Administration’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative, the City is focusing resources on infrastructure, housing, parks and commercial corridors in communities that have historically seen less investment.
Thursday’s ribbon cutting represents one piece of that work: a long-needed road improvement now complete, with another major investment already planned for the community.
The project was completed by the Atlanta Department of Transportation, with support and input from District 12, NPU-Z and residents who have continued to advocate for improvements along the corridor.
