What should the future of Atlanta’s former Prison Farm look like?

The City of Atlanta is exploring how to transform the historic property into a place where residents can enjoy nature, learn about the past, reflect and connect with their community.

On Monday, November 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host the final presentation of the Restoration Memorial & Preserve Master Plan. The event is open to everyone.

Why This Matters

Located near Intrenchment Creek in southeast Atlanta, the former Prison Farm site holds a complicated history that includes incarceration, agricultural labor and changes in how the land has been used.

The City’s vision is to preserve that history while exploring opportunities for public recreation, environmental restoration, education and healing.

The project also aims to strengthen the surrounding South River watershed, helping protect an important part of Atlanta’s natural environment.

What Residents Will See

Throughout 2026, the City has worked with community members, stakeholders and planning experts to study the property and develop a vision for its future.

At the November 16 presentation, residents can learn about the research, community engagement and proposed master plan that will help guide future decisions about the site.

You do not have to live near the property to attend. This is a citywide opportunity to learn about a significant piece of Atlanta’s history and the possibilities for its future.
