Atlanta Residents Help Shape the City of Atlanta’s Human Rights Action Plan for FIFA World Cup

Community voices took center stage at the City of Atlanta’s FIFA Human Rights Action Plan Community Engagement Meeting, where residents, advocates, and city leaders gathered to discuss how Atlanta will uphold and protect human rights as a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026TM.

Hosted by the Mayor’s Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (MOEDI), the session invited input and feedback on the components of the City’s Human Rights Action Plan.

The Human Rights Action Plan serves as baseline expectations applicable across all 16
Host Cities and provides a common agenda for collaboration between FIFA and Host
Cities, as well as between individual Host Cities. The plan is divided into three key focus
areas: safeguarding and inclusion, workers’ rights, and access to remedy.

Participants engaged in small-group discussions to provide recommendations, highlight local concerns, and identified community stakeholders whose partnership could strengthen the plan. Feedback ranged from calls for stronger labor protections to suggestions for legacy programs that will continue after the tournament ends.MOEDI officials emphasized that community engagement will continue throughout the planning process, with three more public sessions scheduled in the months ahead.Residents are encouraged to attend, share their perspectives, and help refine the plan
before it is finalized.
