On August 1, 2025, APD officially begins rolling out a newly redesigned uniform that modernizes the department’s traditional appearance while aligning Atlanta’s public safety presence with global standards ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The updated uniforms maintain APD’s classic dark navy blue base but now feature a striking, light blue checkered pattern prominently displayed across the chest, sleeves, and pocket trim. The new design evokes international law enforcement styles while remaining unmistakably Atlanta.

Zone 5 officers—serving Downtown, Midtown, and major landmarks will be the first to debut the new look, including officers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The rest of the city’s police zones will follow suit in 2026.

“This new uniform reflects both our commitment to public safety and our readiness to represent Atlanta on the world stage,” said Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum. “As we prepare to host visitors from across the globe, we want our officers to reflect the professionalism, pride, and cultural strength of this city.”

The design was developed with input from internal stakeholders and community advisors, balancing functionality, durability, and the desire for a more approachable and modern presence in neighborhoods and major events alike.

With Atlanta preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of international visitors for FIFA World Cup matches and Fan Festival events, APD’s updated uniforms will contribute to a consistent, high-visibility presence throughout the city.

Community members and travelers alike are encouraged to keep an eye out for the new look—and to share their support for the men and women who serve Atlanta with distinction every day.
